Non-surgical care creates the foundation of our practice and we spend a lot time pursuing non-surgical treatment modalities before recommending surgery. In keeping with our philosophy of a multi-disciplinary approach to spinal care, we offer the following non-surgical services.
Patient Education and Support: A patient who is well informed and has a thorough awareness of his problem is able to participate in a shared decision-making process regarding the treatment. We make an attempt to inform and educate our patients about their symptoms, their problem and the treatment options at every stage of your interaction with our team – surgeons, physiotherapists, pain counsellors and nurses. We believe that this is time well spent.
Spinal Rehabilitation: Spinal Rehabilitation forms the foundations of the management of a large proportion of spinal disorders and is carried out by highly trained physiotherapists. Our rehabilitation interventions are evidence-based and in keeping with the accepted best-practices all over the world. We adopt an exercise-based treatment approach combined with advice regarding posture and back care and usually avoid local treatments like interferential therapy, short-wave diathermy and ultrasound massage for chronic pain management. Our physiotherapists have considerable expertise in the management of acute and chronic spinal problems and may supplement the exercise-based treatment with other treatment modalities.
Pain Counselling: Chronic (long standing) spinal pain can occasionally take a toll on one’s occupational, social and recreational activities leading to irritability, anxiety and depression. The pain can occasionally take control of people’s lives and they find all their day-to-day activities being affected by their symptoms. The resultant anxiety and depression can lead to heightened pain perception and can prolong the duration of symptoms. Pain counselling helps to form coping strategies to break the vicious cycle of pain and anxiety and reduces the severity of perceived pain and the duration of symptoms. The aim is to restore spinal pain sufferers to a wholesome and productive life.
